So, your company is moving you to Texas... Yikes!! What's Next?
Have you ever been to Texas for longer than a meeting or confrence? Have you ever seen more than one of the airports? If your answer is "No", then you are going to need some help from a team of experirenced REALTORS! That's The McCrory Team! We have lived here (in various parts of the Dallas area for over 50 years), worked here (various jobs for over 50 years) and sold homes here (for over 37 years)! And, we have worked with relocation clients for most of those 37 years. We know your stress and concern and uncertainty. And, we know you have questions...lots of questions. And, we also know how to help.
We can help ease the stress!
- We will plan organized overview and home-buying trips.
- We will be available to talk to you and return calls, texts and emails promptly
- We will help you understand the process for buying a home in Texas compare to other areas in which you may have lived.
- We will be your advocate and negotiate in your best interests.
- We will help you coordinate your purchase here with your sale back home.
- We will work with your relocation counselor to make this a smooth transisiton for you.
- We will be with you every step of the way and attend inspections, walk-throughs and other necessary meetings.
We can address your concerns and uncertainty!
- We will educate you and your family about what it is like to live in Texas - and particularly the Dallas Metroplex. Some people that move here feel like they are moving to a foreign country, and while it definitely is a little different than New Jersey or Northern California,Texas has it's own strengths.
- We will help you research things in which you and your family might have an interest - youth sports, places of worship, shcools, etc. If your child plays lacrosse, it might be important to know where in the Metroplex he or she can do that, for example.
- We can discuss things such a our property taxes, Community Property statutes, Homestead rights and point you in the right direction to get answers to concerns in these and other areas.
- Are we going to "fit in" here in Texas? This is one of the most common concerns of people who move here - no matter from where they are moving. Our cities are diverse in all ways. Frisco ISD, for example, has 79 languages spoken by its student body and people move to DFW daily from every state in the US and every point on the globe. By finding you a neighborhood that you love that is filled with friendly people, many of which have recently moved here like your family, we can help you see a happy future in Dallas.
- We will always be available to answer the concerns you have about taking the big - and exciting - step of moving across the country to Dallas!
- We want to help you understand why a move to Dallas will be the right move for your family!
Questions?? We get lots of questions!! We can answer your questions - or know where to go to find out!
Let's see...Through the years we have had so many questions. Our favorites are usually ones from the younger members of the family. So, here are some answers up front to some of the more memorable and/or common ones.
- Does everyone in Texas wear cowboy boots and a Stetson all the time? Answer: No, mostly people in the country and Fort Worth (sometimes Houston) wear them all the time, but almost everyone who is a Texan has a good pair of boots that they wear sometimes.
- Do people have oil wells in their back yards? Answer: Not unless you are lucky and live on a lot of land that is not in a city. Although, Texas does have many oil and gas wells and much of the money that funds the University of Texas is from oil and gas leases on land they own.
- Do you have a lot of bugs? Answer: Unfortunately, we do have some peskly little critters, but we also have a lot of really terrific pest control companies that keep them at bay.
- Does Texas have a state income tax? Answer: NO!!!
- Are the schools good in Dallas? Do I need to send my kids to private schools? Answer: Most people do think the public schools are good in the Dallas area. Sending children to private schools is usually a personal choice for parents who want a particular type of education, such as one that is faith based, or who choose to live in an area that does not have their eductional criteria found where they live. We have many private schools of all types and some parents choose to home school. There is something for everyone here.
- From a young man about ten years old: Are there places where I can fish? Answer: We have an abundance of lakes in and around the Dallas Metroplex where fishing is popular. But, also, many neighborhoods have community ponds with catch and release fishing. Believe it or not, some of these fish can be almost record breakers...so you don't have to make a trip to a lake if you live in this type of community.
- Does the Dallas area have good hospitals? Answer: There are many excellent hospitals in the Dallas Fort Worth area, and most of the major ones have multiple branches in a variety of areas that handle all but the most difficult and sophisticated proceedures. You don't have to travel far for health care.
- Is housing expensive in the Dallas/Fort Worth area? Answer: While the cost of housing has incresed in recent years, we still have some of the best values in the country. As in most areas, the closer in to the city, the higher the price. If one is willing to have a little longer commute, one can find a really nice home for a good price. And, even our "mansions" are less than in many areas of the country. The Metroplex still has better affordability than most other major cities.
- How many schools offer the International Baccalaureate program? Answer: Actually quite a few! Over 30 schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metropolitian area offer the IB program.
- Where do you go when there is a tornado? Answer: Under the stairs, in an interior bathroom or in a central closet downstairs...but you will most likely never actually be in one. We have lived here a long time and never have had one of our homes hit by a tornado.
- And although there are many more questions, finally, this one from a very unhappy teen being "forced" to move here: Just what makes Dallas so great? Answer: That's a tough one to answer because there are so many different reasons for different people, but a few answers might be: friendly people (you won't be the new kid long) great neighborhoods, four professional sports teams, every kind of youth activity imaginable, good schools, good weather most of the time... and we could go on, but when you live here for a while, it just grows on you.
And our favorite question to answer is this: My company will assign me to a REALTOR, but how can I work with you? Answer: Just ask your counselor and/or HR person if you can. If someone calls you from Ebby Halliday's relocation department, tell them, also, that you want to work with us. Most of the time they are all happy to let you work with your choice of REALTOR as long as we meet their standards. We work with all the relocation companies and are happy to support them and meet their REALTOR requirements.
